Approximately 400 people from England, Scotland, Belgium, Germany, Spain, the United States and most of all the Netherlands visited the Radio Day in Amsterdam on Saturday 13th November 2010. For the first time, we gathered in the all new Hotel Casa 400 in the Eerste Ringdijkstraat 4 in Amsterdam. With its modern facilities and technique, the new building allowed us to open a big "Radio Day Marketplace" including several stands with offshore merchandise (i.e. Museum RockArt, Radio Waddenzee, Radio Caroline, Ray Anderson), the ExtraGold NL broadcasts, a bar and most of all enough place to meet and greet. In addition the "Radio Day Conference Hall" with capable loudspeakers, several headlights and a modern projector meant "easy listening and viewing" for up to 200 visitors. Many former (mostly) offshore radio colleagues attended (I do hope I haven't forgotten one or two). These were Marc Jacobs, Hugo Meulenhof, Ferry Eden, Will van der Steen, Bert Bennett, Wim Robijn (Hendrik van Nellestijn), Brian Cullingford, Roger Scott (Arnold Layne), Mark Hammerton (Mark Sloane), John Stewart (John Aston), Graham Gill, Seve Ungermark, Victor Pelli, Peter Ford, Peter Chicago, Bob Noakes, Robert Owen, Hans ten Hooge (Hogendoorn), Peter Jager, Marc van Amstel, Pieter Damave, Leo van der Goot, Nico Steenbergen, Herbert Visser, Klaas Vaak (Tom Mulder), Johnny Lewis, David Foster, Ray Anderson, Dennis Jason, Nigel Harris (Stuart Russel), Richard Thompson (Bob Lawrence), Martin Fisher, John Dwyer, Jan Veldkamp, Ad Roberts, Dick Verheul, Peter de Vries (Wout van der Meer), Cliff Osbourne, Jeremy Chartham, "Harkie" Paul Harald van Gelder, Stewart Payne, Elija van den Berg, Freddie Schorsch, Jan Sundermann, Wim van Egmond, Elly van Amstel, Johan Vermeer (Louis Stuster), Sietse Brouwer, Ad Petersen (Roland), Jonathan Marks and last but not least Chi Coltrane... We started with a superb Radio Mi Amigo panel ("From the Benelux via Playa de Aro to the Thames Estuary"). Marc Jacobs chatted with Hugo Meulenhof, Ferry Eden, Will van der Steen and Bert Bennett. Hendrik van Nellestijn congratulated the winners of the Radio Mi Amigo 100.89 FM quiz. Next was Graham Gill proudly presenting his new book "Way Back Home". The laudatio was held by Bert Bennett. One of this year's highlights was the "Radio 390 Reunion". Brian Cullingford, Roger Scott (Arnold Layne), Mark Hammerton (Mark Sloane), John Stewart (John Aston), and Graham Gill took part in a fascinating panel with Trevor Adams from Project Redsand as the moderator. We then welcomed Seve Ungermark from Sweden who has worked for the Scandinavian offshore radio pioneer Radio Nord. He was interviewed by Ronnie Forslund. An "RNI is 40" reunion included the following guests: Victor Pelli, Graham Gill, Arnold Layne (Roger Scott), Peter Chicago, Bob Noakes, Peter Ford, Hans ten Hooge (Hogendoorn), Peter Jager, Marc van Amstel, Pieter Damave and Leo van der Goot. Nico Steenbergen and Robbie Owen chaired both panels. This year's programme was finished with a Radio Day Special: Herbert Visser in conversation with Chi Coltrane. Chi underlined the impact of offshore radio on the music industry. She concluded the Radio Day three of her songs. During the day, Hans Hettelder presented his famous ship models and Surfradio impressed with RNI posters and most of all a very huge one hanging on the wall. ExtraGold NL broadcast live on the Internet during the whole day (this is their superb Radio Day promo). Hans Knot, Rob Olthof and Martin van der Ven would like to express their thanks to everyone who attended the Radio Day making it a huge success again! And most of all we would like to say a big thank you to our vital "helping hands". Without you we would have got totally stuck.
