Last week Martin van der Ven and his
radio friend Gerhard Fiolka, Ben Meijering, Rob Olthof and Hans Knot travelled for a few days to England. One part of their stay was a special reunion party held in London. It was organised by Mary and Chris Payne of the Wonderful Radio London Fansite and their friend Pauline Miller. It was held at the 'Doggett's Coat and Badge' a big pub at the Thames near Blackfriar's Bridge. The party was organised as a memento to the fact it was this month 35 years ago the Marine Offences Act became law in Great Britain. Not known to the anorak people this meeting was well organised during the last 6 months. Only a month ago it was mentioned
where the venue would take place and everybody attending was asked to keep it for
themself and not telling anybody, avoiding that people, who were not invited, would show up. Also press and radio and television reporters were
out of the question during the reunion.
All honour is going out to Chris, Mary and Pauline for getting together around 35 former offshore people who worked for the offshore stations in the sixties. On the photographs of Martin van der Ven and Ben Meyering you can see we all enjoyed ourselves a lot. From everywhere they came to London including USA, Canada, Australia and
Belgium - former Caroline North deejay and newsreader David Williams is living there nowadays. It was a day full of memories and meeting people you haven't seen for ages or haven't seen before at all. It was very nice to see that people like Bud Bulloo and Robbie Dale and others are following the stories on
the Internet and tell me that they're enjoying all the stories so much.
It would go to far to mention everybody who was attending but here are some hands

Speciale bijeenkomst
Vorige week reisden zowel Martin van der Ven, Gerhard Fiolka, Ben Meijering, Rob Olthof en Hans Knot voor een aantal dagen naar Londen. Een deel van onze reis naar Engeland had wel een heel speciaal doel. We waren door Mary en Chris Payne uitgenodigd aanwezig te zijn op een private party die werd georganiseerd in de 'Doggett's Coat and Badge', een grote pub aan de Theems in Londen. De party was ter gelegenheid van het gegeven dat het dit jaar 35 jaar geleden is dat de wet in Engeland tegen de zeezenders van kracht werd. In alle stilte was het afgelopen half jaar de voorbereiding geweest en pas enkele weken vooraf werd gemeld waar we moesten zijn en dat zwijgplicht gewenst was.
Veel lof
Alle eer gaat dan ook aan Mary en Chris Payne, evenals aan Pauline Miller die het voor elkaar hebben gekregen dat zo'n 35 voormalige zeezenderdeejays en technici bij elkaar kwamen. En dat uit Canada, Engeland, Australië, België en Amerika. De Belg was Dave Williams, de voormalige Caroline North deejay en nieuwslezer, die de laatste jaren Wallonië als zijn verblijfplek heeft verkozen. Het werd een lange dag met veel leuke heerlijke herinneringen maar tevens met het weerzien van velen die elkaar decennia niet hadden gezien dan wel nog nooit eerder hadden ontmoet maar wel, op welke wijze dan ook, contact met elkaar hadden.
Te veel om op te noemen
Het zou te ver gaan om een ieder op te noemen die aanwezig was. Dat laten we dan ook over aan Mary en Chris op hun eigen pagina's op internet. Hier zo maar een paar handen vol met

Gezien het een besloten party was willen we niet in detail treden en de herinneringen die zijn opgehaald vooral voor onszelf behouden.
